The Right Brain is the brain’s visual memory center, often called our photographic memory. When the letters are placed on top of a memorable picture that produces that sound, the brain stores the image and the phonics pattern together as a single unit. When the picture comes to mind, the sound pattern comes with it—making decoding faster, easier, and far less frustrating.
This whole-brain strategy allows older struggling readers to finally master the more advanced phonics combinations found in upper-level reading, helping them tackle longer vocabulary words used in science, literature, and everyday reading.
