Description
One of the earliest examples we have of stained glass is the Lycurgus cup,
from the 4th century A.D. This remarkable cup appears red when illuminated from the inside and green when illuminated from the outside. That technique was lost, but adding mineral salts (and eventually stains) to glass to color it and connecting pieces of glass by lead strips continues to the present. Stained glass has been used in everything from cathedral windows to lampshades. It is extemely expensive, though, with Tiffany stained glass lamps selling for thousands to millions of dollars. That cost has led to the development of faux stained glass, a way to get the look without the expense. Let’s try it!
